Getting Started

This guide will help you set up and run the Fitness Tracker application.

Prerequisites

PHP 8.2 or higher
Composer
Node.js and npm (optional, for frontend assets)
Docker (optional, for containerized deployment)

Installation

Option 1: Local Development

Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/Pbierley/FitnessTracker.git
cd FitnessTracker/fitness-tracker-laravel

Install dependencies
```
composer install
```
Run the setup script
```
bash run.sh
```
This will:
- Create .env file from .env.example
- Generate application key
- Run database migrations
- Start the development server
Access the application

Authentication

The API uses Laravel Sanctum for token-based authentication. Include the token in the Authorization header:

Authorization: Bearer {your-token}

Auth Endpoints

Register

Create a new user account.

Docker Setup

Run Fitness Tracker using Docker for easy deployment and consistent environments.

Prerequisites

Docker Desktop installed
Docker Compose (included with Docker Desktop)

Quick Start

cd fitness-tracker-laravel
docker compose up --build

Access the application at http://localhost:8000

The project includes these Docker configuration files:

Start containers

docker compose up
